Empowering Community Support Officers through Training in Melamchi

From May 11-13,2024  the serene town of Melamchi in Sindhupalchowk District became a hub of learning and collaboration. Technology for All successfully conducted a comprehensive training program to 8 of the Community Support Officers (CSOs) from Sindhupalchowk and Pachthar Districts. This event aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of CSOs, enabling them to better serve their communities.

Day 1: Building Strong Foundations

Electrical System Training

The first day kicked off with an in-depth session on electrical systems. Trainers provided insights into basic electrical principles, maintenance, and safety protocols. This training aimed to empower CSOs with the knowledge to troubleshoot common electrical issues and ensure the safe operation of electrical systems in the hub of their respective communities.

ODK Forms

Following the electrical system training, participants were introduced to Open Data Kit (ODK) forms. This session focused on how to effectively design, deploy, and manage digital forms for data collection. The practical hands-on exercises helped CSOs understand how to use this tool for efficient data gathering and analysis, crucial for making informed decisions and reporting.

 Day 2: Effective Planning and Community Engagement

Session Planning and Conducting

Day two started with a workshop on how to make session plans and conduct training sessions. CSOs learned techniques for creating engaging and informative session plans tailored to their audience. This included tips on time management, content delivery, and interactive activities to keep participants engaged. Also getting feedback and response from participants .

Proposal Writing

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to proposal writing. Participants were guided through the essential components of a strong proposal, including objective setting, budget planning, and impact assessment. This training aimed to equip CSOs with the skills to secure funding and support for community projects, ensuring sustainable development.

Day 3: Financial Literacy and Safeguarding

 

Digital Financial Literacy

 

The final day began with a session on digital financial literacy. CSOs were introduced to various digital financial tools and platforms, learning how to navigate and utilize these resources to benefit their communities. Topics covered included mobile banking, digital payments, and financial management, aiming to promote financial inclusion and empowerment.

 

Safeguarding

 

The training concluded with an essential session on safeguarding. Participants were educated on the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals within their communities, understanding the various forms of abuse, and the protocols for reporting and addressing safeguarding concerns. This session emphasized the role of CSOs in creating safe and supportive environments for all community members.

 

Reflecting on the Experience

 

The three-day training was not just about imparting knowledge; it was about fostering a sense of community and collaboration among CSOs from different districts. The participants left with enhanced skills, new tools, and a renewed sense of purpose to drive positive change in their communities.

 

As we reflect on the success of this training, Technology for All remains committed to supporting and empowering CSOs. By providing continuous training and resources, we strive to ensure that every community has the leaders and tools they need to thrive.
